Al Margolis´ omnipresence in the cassette culture scene during the eighties has earned him an international reputation as a vanguard for experimental music. Margolis also runs the Pogus Productions label (formerly cassette label Sound of Pig). Among the label´s diverse and singular range of offerings, you will find numerous releases by Margolis himself under the moniker "If, Bwana", wherein he explores a plethora of sonic experiments, transforming conventional sounds into uncanny otherness. His music succeeds in fusing ambience with experimental and musique concrete, producing strange soundscapes that are soothing and unnerving, (consciously) ridiculous and cerebral - often all at the same time. Margolis lives and works in Chester, NY. "The Ghost of Reality" contains two new compositions made by Al Margolis in 2007. In "Too Too", he employs buzzing drones and what sounds like someone fidgeting a loose cable or microphone, accompanied by whining tones to create a subtle atmosphere of unease and sillyness. The second track, "Imp", finds Margolis toying around with his ARP 2600 synth, generating a seemingly random sequence of clicks, squeaks and filtered noise that eventually constitute a complex rhythmical texture.
Graphical artist Yorick Phlypo´s packaging design mirrors the contents of the cd by combining geometrical elements with digitally manipulated random paint drippings.
